Die Abteilung für Film und Fernsehen, die im Jahre 1972 als Teil der Fakultät der Künste der Tel Aviv University gegründet wurde, ist die älteste akademische Ausbildungseinrichtung für diesen Bereich in Israel. In einer ungewöhnlichen Kombination verbindet sich hier die praktische mit der theoretisch-akademischen Seite des Filmemachens und der Fernsehproduktion. Das Department hatte und hat einen prägenden Einfluß auf das israelische Kino. Viele renommierte israelische Filmemacher und Theoretiker haben ihre Ausbildung in Tel Aviv erhalten. Häufig unterrichten sie heute selbst an der Universität und an den diversen Filmschulen des Landes.
1986 fand das erste Tel Aviv International Students Film Festival statt, das seither alle zwei Jahre ausgerichtet wird und mittlerweile zu den renommiertesten Studentenfilmfestivals weltweit gehört. In diesem Jahr wurde es zum vierten Mal von einem filmwissenschaftlichen Colloquium begleitet. Angesichts der in den letzten Jahren rasant gestiegenen Anzahl von Fernsehkanälen und der zunehmenden Verbreitung von Kabel und Satellit sieht die Film- und Fernsehabteilung eine wichtige Aufgabe darin, ihre Absolventen besonders auf dieses Berufsfeld vorzubereiten. Die verschiedenen israelischen Fernsehanstalten sind gesetzlich verpflichtet, einen bestimmen Anteil einheimischer Produktionen in ihr Programm aufzunehmen. Den daraus resultierenden Bedarf zu decken ist ein Anliegen der Fernsehausbildung der Abteilung für Film und Fernsehen. Struktur und Inhalte der Ausbildung Die Tel Aviv University bietet einen BFA-Abschluß in Filmproduktion oder Drehbuch, einen BA in Filmwissenschaft und seit kurzem einen MFA in Filmproduktion und Drehbuch an. Außerdem wird die Einrichtung eines MA in Filmwissenschaft angestrebt. Filmproduktion Die theoretische Ausbildung in Film und Fernsehen wird mit zahlreichen praktischen Übungen in den Bereichen Film, Fernsehen und digitale Medien verbunden. Aktuell werden verstärkt Kurse und Workshops im Bereich Multimediaproduktion angeboten. Die Studenten arbeiten völlig unabhängig an ihren Filmprojekten, an denen die Universität auch finanziell nicht beteiligt ist. Die Rechte an den Filmen liegen, im Unterschied zu den übrigen israelischen Filmschulen, bei den Studenten. Drehbuch Neben dem Drehbuchschreiben wird hier die praktische Umsetzung des Buchs vermittelt. Filmwissenschaft Dieser Studiengang umfaßt die ästhetische Theorie des Films, Filmkritik und Theorien der Textanalyse sowie die Wechselwirkungen von visuellen Medien, Gesellschaft, Politik und Kultur. Studenten In allen Studienrichtungen zusammen stehen pro Jahr 170 Studienplätze zur Verfügung. Ausländische Studenten sind grundsätzlich zum Studium zugelassen. Zugangsvoraussetzungen sind das Abitur sowie ein allgemeiner und standardisierter Zulassungs- und Einstufungstest ('Psichometri'). Lehrende Die Abteilung beschäftigt 16 festangestellte und 80 freie Lehrkräfte, die einen ausgezeichneten Ruf für ihre Tätigkeit in der Film- und Fernsehindustrie wie auch für ihre Beiträge zur Forschung genießen. Zu ihnen gehören Prof. Rami Levy, Prof. David Perlov, Moshe Mizrachi, Prof. Yehuda Ne´eman, Prof. Yigal Bursztyn, Prof. Arnon Zukerman, Prof. Abraham Heffner, Koby Niv, Prof. Nurit Gertz, Dr. Nitzan Ben-Shaul, Dr. Ilan Avisar und Dr. Ariel Schweitzer. Lehrkräfte der Abteilung werden regelmäßig zu Gastvorträgen und Meisterklassen an andere Filmschulen entsandt. Im Gegenzug halten zahlreiche Filmwissenschaftler und Filmschaffende aus dem In- und Ausland in Tel Aviv Vorlesungen und Seminare ab. Technische Ausstattung Die Abteilung für Film und Fernsehen verfügt neben Schnittplätzen und einem Kinosaal über drei komplett ausgestattete Fernsehstudios. Finanzierung Die Studiengebühren für den B.A./ B.F.A betragen € 2231, für den M.F.A. € 2595. Das Studium wird von den Studenten selbst bzw. durch Stipendien finanziert. Einige Abschlußprojekte werden durch die Universität finanziell unterstützt. |

The Department of Film and Television, founded in 1972 as part of the Faculty of the Arts at Tel Aviv University, is the oldest academic institution for this area of study in Israel. In an unusual combination, the program of study here combines the practical and the theoretical-academic side of filmmaking and television production. The Department had and has a decisive influence on Israeli cinema. Many renowned Israeli filmmakers and theoreticians received their training in Tel Aviv. They often now teach themselves at the University and other film schools across the country, passing on their knowledge and experience to the next generation.
In 1986, the first Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival took place. This festival, which since then has taken place every two years, has in the meantime become one of the most renowned student film festivals around the world. This year, it was accompanied for the fourth time by a film studies colloquium. The festival is organized solely by students of the department. In light of rapidly growing number of television channels and the increasing spread of cable and satellite in recent years, the Film and Television Department considers it a particularly important task to prepare its graduates for this area of the profession. The various Israeli television stations are legally required to include a certain percent of domestic productions in their program. As a result, the need for high quality programs has continuously been on the rise. One of the intentions of the Department of Film and Television is to fulfill this need. Structure and Content of the Program Tel Aviv University offers BFA degrees in film production and screenwriting, a BA in film studies, and recently began to offer MFAs in film production and screenwriting. In addition, the Department intends to establish a MA program in film studies. Film Production Here, the theoretical side of film and television is linked to practical training in the areas of film, television, and the digital media. Currently, a special emphasis is being given to courses and workshops in the area of multimedia production. Not only do students work independently on their film projects, the University also plays no financial role in these projects. Unlike other Israeli film schools, the Department leaves the rights to student films with the students themselves. In these films, all lengths, genres and formats are represented. Screenwriting Beside screenwriting itself, this program also includes instruction in the practical realization of the screenplay. Film Studies This program concentrates on the aesthetic theory of film, film criticism, theories of text analysis as well as the mutual effects between the visual media, society, politics, and culture. Students Each year, 170 students are admitted to the Department as a whole. Foreign students are basically welcome to study. Admission requirements include a high school diploma as well as a general and standardized admission and evaluation exam (‘Psichometri´). Faculty The Department employs 16 permanent and 80 adjunct instructors, who enjoy an excellent reputation for their activities in the film and television industry as well as for their contributions to research. The faculty includes: Prof. Rami Levy, Prof. David Perlov, Moshe Mizrachi, Prof. Yehuda Ne´eman, Prof. Yigal Bursztyn, Prof. Arnon Zukerman, Prof. Abraham Heffner, Koby Niv, Prof. Nurit Gertz, Dr. Nitzan Ben-Shaul, Dr. Ilan Avisar and Dr. Ariel Schweitzer. Instructors regularly hold guest lectures and master classes at other film schools. In return, numerous film scholars and film producers from across Israel and overseas hold lectures and seminars at Tel Aviv University. Technical Resources In addition to editing equipment and a cinema auditorium, the Division of Film and Television has three fully equipped television studios. Financing The tuition fees for the BA are € 2231, for the MFA € 2595. Students finance their study either independently or with the help of scholarships. The University offers financial support to a number of final projects. |
