Israel Film Fund

The Israel Film Fund was established in 1979 with the aim of supporting the production and enhancing the quality of Israeli feature films. The Fund´s aim is to enable the best stories and scripts to be realized and to encourage the most talented Israeli filmmakers to bring their vision and creativity to the screen.

The Fund celebrates 22 years of talent, creativity and imagination in the art of filmmaking. This is reflected by the many films which it has supported that have become milestones of the Israeli cultural heritage. The Fund is proud to have supported more than 160 full-length feature films.

With an annual budget of  eight million dollars, the main goal of the Fund is to support and invest in the production of full length Israeli feature films produced by Israeli production companies, and to support their marketing and distribution in Israel and around the world.

The Fund has expanded its activity with the approval of a special program dedicated to the development, production and support of films for children and young people. The Fund´s policy includes a special emphasis on encouraging international co-productions.

Every year, about 100 screenplays are submitted to the Fund, from which 12-14 films are selected and granted the support and the investment of the Fund. The selection of the films is based on the recommendations of the Fund´s directors and external consultants, and subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.

The average budget of an Israeli feature film is between $500,000 to $850,000. The Fund invests up to two-thirds of the approved budget. Every year about 150 synopses are submitted to the Fund´s development program. The Fund supports and invests in the development of about 30 scripts a year.

One of the Fund´s main goals is to increase the audience for Israeli films in Israel and worldwide and raise public awareness to the cultural, social and economic contribution of a busy and vibrant film industry in Israel.
