Ranis Phantasiewelt wird regiert von einer comic-haft animierten Superheldenpuppe und diversen illustren Imaginationsgestalten. Diese sind im Alltag sein ständiges Begleitpersonal: Schutzengel, Gesprächspartner, Spielkameraden... Die graue Wirklichkeit hingegen ist vergleichsweise roh und unkalkulierbar und wird gnadenlos dirigiert von den Erwartungen seines Vaters. Der will aus dem verweichlichten Tagträumer einen hartgesottenen Fußballer machen. Kurzerhand meldet er seinen Sohn beim lokalen Fußballclub an. Auf dem harten Rasen der Wirklichkeit muß Rani feststellen, daß seiner Phantasie Grenzen gesetzt sind. Aber auch der Vater muß lernen, seinen Sohn so zu akzeptieren, wie er ist. Ein humorvoller Kinderfilm, der in phantasievoller Machart gegenseitige Wahrnehmungen und Erwartungen im Verhältnis von Vater und Sohn skizziert.

Rani's fantasy world is ruled by an animated superhero doll from a comicstrip world and various illustrious imagined figures. In everyday life they are his constant companions: guardian angels, conversation partners, playmates. The gray reality, in contrast, is comparatively raw and unpredictable, and mercilessly controlled by the expectations of his father. He wants to make a hard-headed soccer player out of the sensitive daydreamer. Out of the blue, he signs his son up at the local soccer club. On the hard turf of reality Rani has to realize that his fantasy has limitations. But his father must also learn to accept his son the way he is. A funny children's film, which sketches out in an imaginative way the mutual perceptions and expectations in the relationship between father and son.
