Ein heiterer, heißer Nachmittag am Meer. Der kleine Roy vergnügt sich mit seiner Mutter in den Wellen, der Vater baut das Lager ab. Aber die Idylle trügt. Die wortkarge Spannung zwischen den Familienmitgliedern wird offensichtlich, als ein märchenhafter Beduine mit seinem Kamel erscheint. Roys Begehrlichkeit richtet sich auf eine wundervolle, aber viel zu teure Flasche farbigen Sandes. Mit Grobheit und einem schnell gegebenen Versprechen bringt der Vater seinen Sohn ins Auto. Auf dem Rückweg durch die karge Wüstenlandschaft, in der Enge des Autos, verdichtet sich der Konflikt: mit bohrender Sturheit fordert Roy sein Recht. Endlich macht sich der Vater auf in die Weite der Wüste, um für seinen schmollenden Sohn eine Flasche mit Sand zu füllen. Unbemerkt folgt ihm Roy und gerät in vermintes Sperrgebiet. Familiärer Zwist und politische Konfliktlinien überlagern sich, als der Vater seinen Sohn entdeckt. |

A sunny hot afternoon at the seaside. While little Roy is enjoying himself with his mother in the waves, his father packs up the gear. But the idyllic scene is deceptive. The laconic tension between the family members becomes obvious when a Bedouin taken from the pages of a fairy tale appears with his camel. Roy covets a wonderful, but much too expensive bottle of colored sand. With a bit of harsh treatment and a hastily made promise, the father gets his son into the car. On the way back through the desolate desert landscape, in the constricted confines of the car, the conflict thickens. With a piercing stubbornness, Roy demands his right. Finally, the father goes off into the expanses of the desert to fill a bottle with sand for his sulking son. Unseen, Roy follows his father and ends up in a mine zone in a restricted area. A family squabble and the lines of political conflict are layered on top of each other when the father discovers his son. |
